Transrectal Sonography (TRUS) is an ultrasound test to diagnose the problems of the prostate gland and colon. Most of the ultrasound studies are done `per abdomen'. In ultrasound test, the radiologist uses a special probe which is put on the abdomen or any other part of the body which is to be scanned and images from inside the body are seen on the LED screen. On the basis of these images, the radiologist will diagnose the disease. In TRUS Ultrasound a thin and long probe is inserted into the rectum of the patient. This probe is used to diagnose the diseases of the prostate gland and the rectum. However TRUS ultrasound gives better images of the rectum and prostate as compared to the abdominal probe. However most of the male patients would prefer to get the test done through a male radiologist.
Trans Rectal Ultra Sonography (TRUS) is used to diagnose the diseases of the Rectum and Prostate. This ultrasound test is most useful in the diagnosis of Prostate Cancer and Colon Cancer. TRUS is not as common as TVS because of the difference between men having prostate or colon cancer and women having cervix, uterine or ovarian cancer. TVS is also useful in diagnosing other diseases of the women involving the reproductive organs. The probe used in TVS and TRUS is common and in order to maintain sanitization, the probe is covered with a condom while doing both the TVS and TRUS studies. Till some years back the probe used for TVS and TRUS used to be quite thick but in the last few years the probe has become thinner. Most of our centres are equipped with 4D TVS and TRUS Probe.
The cost of TRUS Ultrasound is in the range of Rs. 1800 - 2200. 4D Trus would cost in the range of Rs. 2000 - 2500. Almost all of our centres have the presence of male radiologists for doing TRUS Ultrasound. However prior appointment needs to be taken so that availability of male Radiologist can be ensured for doing TRUS Ultrasound. Most of the male patients would feel comfortable for TRUS ultrasound to be done by a male radiologist. The probe is covered with a soft gel which makes the insertion of the probe in the rectum quite painless. We have multiple centres in the NCR Region and you can get appointment at any of our centres by calling on the numbers +91-8800188334 / 8800188335 / 8800188336.
